My perception of a newspaper article

Article: Five specialist to ease Sando shortage.

Good Morning:

This article showcased the plight at the San Fernando General Hospital, where for the past two (2) years, they have been operating without a Neurologist. I find this to be OUTRAGEOUS!! Simply unbelievable. I cannot begin to fathom a public health facility of this magnitude and being in existence for more than twenty- six (26) years, now functions on auto pilot, without the necessary expertise of a brain surgeon. When this story was highlighted the excuse was given, that they were advertising the position and couldn't find a Neurologist. Not one? During this fiasco, patients had to be transferred to the Community Seventh-Day Adventist Hospital and Port of Spain General Hospital, in an effort to save their lives. Yet these hospitals, one being a public entity have on-staff Neurologist.

In my humble view, it appears as though the Medical Board at the San Fernando General Hospital and by extension the Ministry of Health are inept, as it pertains to the intricacies of the simple procurement of medical personnel and by extension, they lack the humanitarian courtesies required to demonstrate operational and personal interest in caring for the sick; many of whom are contributors to the statutory deduction known as Health Surcharge.

Furthermore, in an effort to rectify this volatile situation, the Ministry of Health sought to employ doctors from Cuba and one from Spain. While this may be deemed as a positive move, these professional aren't adept in their command of the English language and the Ministry has opted to forgo the normal procedure, which involves sending them to learn English at the University of the West Indies.They plan to simply align them with local professionals in their area of specialty, some of who may not be current in the basics of Spanish.

It is quite clear that much is amiss in the practices and operations of our public hospitals and their lack of accountability. Often when situations arise, the public never gets the true perspective on the event. Coupled with my sentiments aired earlier, I simply have no confidence in the Public Health Systems of Trinidad and Tobago.

Welcome to my perception of........ ME!

    I am a very handsome and charming young man, with high yet attainable ideals. I am a very ambitious and industrious individual who possesses core competencies, with a eye for organization and detail and almost always welcomes a good challenge. I am a bit of an overachiever and I pride myself as a winner, a go getter, goal setter and a leader. Though I currently rank myself as a six (6), with regard to being an effective communicator, I believe that I posses the ability  to be an eight (8) or nine (9) and will be as time progresses. I am also very sociable, fun-loving, adventurous and enjoy meeting new people. I am quite the optimist and believes that there's a way to work around any situation that may intercept my pathway. Lastly, I view myself as an overcomer of life's challenges, with the help of God.

An event that had an impact on my life

Hello:

    We all have experiences that shape, even alter our lives and the way we do things and thus, I am not without exception.The event that had the greatest effect on me, was that of my sudden illness a few years ago. Its occurrence caught everyone by surprise, including me, who hadn't an inkling that I was unwell.
   
    Yes! This event definitely changed my life in many ways, far more that I could have perceived initially. I was and still is an ardent believer in God's ability to do exceedingly, abundantly, above all that I could have asked or thought and was resolved to watch Him come through for me, as He did before. One of the most significant and obvious changes to my life, was learning to adjust to having sight in one eye and the challenges associated with that. Although I was tremendously grateful to God to have sight at all, one of the greatest challenges, was regaining dept perception and averaging.
   
    This experience caused me to adopt a new and very much improved perspective on God, life, taking charge of my health and the truest essence and value that should be placed on and intimated to loved ones, who take care of and support us through life's ordeals. Most of all, it has helped me to develop an attitude of optimism and gratitude. In the words of J. F. Kennedy, I say to you, "Do not pray for an easy life. Pray to be a stronger man".

Hello Everyone!!

My name is Richard Rice and I am second year Business Management major, at the University of the Southern Caribbean. I am an outgoing yet reserved individual, who enjoys meeting and interacting with new people. I love to have fun, to 'lime', a good laugh, watching movies and documentaries with friends and family. I also have an avid interest in travelling and seeing new places and hope to one day travel the world.

As a communicator, I would rate myself as a six (6), because of my ability to speak when called upon, listen attentively to any messages being conveyed verbally or non-verbally, as well as achieving effective communication through written channels.

I believe that my skills as a communicator can be improved through:

• Greater interaction across varied spheres.
• Being generally more outgoing.
• Becoming a more adept listener and speaker.
• Developing social ease.
